Week without walls is a school trip where we go to a foreign country for a week. I had to decide from Thailand, Philippines or Spain. I originally wanted to go to Philippines, but after long hours of debating with my friends, we decided Spain. Last year i went to Vietnam, which although was very fun and interesting, i chose spain because i wanted to visit Europe. All my friends wanted Spain, and a trip without them wouldn’t be half as interesting as a trip with them.
In spain we stayed 3 nights in Madrid, and 1 in Barcelona. Our tour guide took us around, but she barely knew where she was going. When she was taking us to a restaurant to eat, she had to ask pedestrians for directions! Aside from that, she knew a lot about the history of spain and enlightened us on the politics and history that shaped spain today. My favorite part of the trip was a truly epic football match between Athletico Madrid and F.C Barcelona. It was amazing to see the whole stadium cheer and sing all in unison. About 60,000 people were all singing the same song during the match. It was also interesting to watch our teachers argue with some people who took our seats, we even had to call security but in the end, we got our seats back.
I learned many things, some might not be very important, and others i will remember for the rest of my life. I figured out that in spain, everybody loves football. there were so many people going to the football match that it seemed like a sea of people, all flowing to the same direction, the stadium. I also learned that spain is not as dangerous as i had thought. If you are careful and not show off all your money, you will be fine. We never had a pickpocket incident on our trip although we came close to a few. It was also interesting because instead of opening a textbook and reading about what Gaudi did in his life, we can just take a walk outside and it’s there for us to see, smell and touch. Going to spain showed me what life is like in europe compared to Dubai, where everything is about money. The art galleries in spain were also interesting too see, because of all the symbols in it. Normally i wouldn’t care about the picture, but when teh guide started explaining it, i began to question why the artist did something this way?or what does this mean? Spain was a amazing trip, and it helped me see life in other countries other then just dubai.
